Dr. Seung-Hak Baek pic

Dr. Baek was trained in Department of Orthodontics, Seoul National University Hospital and got MSD and PhD from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea. He is Professor, Department of Orthodontics, School of Dentistry, Seoul National University; President of Korean Association of Orthodontists (2022-2024); and Past President of Korean Cleft lip and Palate Association (2017-2019).

In addition, he is a member of Editorial Review Board of Angle Orthodontist, a Peer reviewer of AJODO, EJO, PIO and other journals, and an Associate Editor in Orthodontic Craniofacial Research and AJODO-Clinical Companion. He received a 2009 CDABO Case report of the year in Boston AAO meeting and gave presentations in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2023, and 2024 AAO meetings. He published more than 200 articles in prestigious orthodontic and surgical journals and around 50 books. His subspecialty is diagnosis and treatment of Class III malocclusion, cleft and craniofacial anomalies, and artificial intelligence.

Dr. Yang is the chair of the department of orthodontics at the Seoul National University (SNU) School of Dentistry, Seoul, Rep. of Korea, where he holds the rank of associate professor. He completed his orthodontic training, master degree, and PhD in Orthodontics from SNU school of dentistry and a diplomate of the Korean Board of Orthodontics.

 In the academic realm, Dr. Yang has made significant contributions as an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at Seoul National University School of Dentistry, building on his prior role as an Assistant Professor. He has also served in hospital appointments, including as a Consultant Staff and Orthodontist at Seoul National University Dental Hospital. Dr. Yang is actively engaged in the professional community, with director roles within the Korean Association of Orthodontists (KAO), Korean Academy of Dental Sciences, and Korean Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. He has been serving as the Associate Editor of the official scientific journal of the KAO (Korean Journal of Orthodontics) indexed in SCIE. He has also been recognized with awards like the Best Young Investigator Award from the Korean Dental Association and the title of Professor of the Year at Seoul National University Dental Hospital.

About this Course

Biomechanics is the study of mechanics applied to living beings, it analyzes loads, stress, tension, movement, size, shape, and structure of the body. The temporomandibular joint in physiological states is subject to the interaction of various bone (jaw and temporal), nervous, cartilaginous, and muscular components. During these 4 cases analysis, it will provide new perspectives on our understanding by bringing together the principles of biomechanics and TMJ.
